- Background
SanaaBiZ Investments Limited, the business arm of Culture and Development East Africa (CDEA), in partnership with Kigamboni Municipal Council, invites Expressions of Interest from suitably qualified Geotechnical Engineering firms or consultants to carry out a Geotechnical Scoping Survey for the proposed Kigamboni Eco Sanaa Village Project.
The project is planned as a flagship creative economy development comprising a creative hub, eco-friendly infrastructure, cultural spaces, and hospitality facilities on approximately 18 acres of coastal land in Kigamboni, Dar es Salaam.
The geotechnical survey will inform early-stage design, planning, and investment decisions by assessing subsurface conditions and identifying potential geotechnical risks.
- Main Objectives
The overall objective of this assignment is to provide a preliminary geotechnical assessment of the project site to guide feasibility, design, and subsequent detailed investigations.
Specifically, the assignment aims to:
- Assess the subsurface soil and ground conditions across the project site;
- Identify geotechnical constraints and risks (e.g. soil instability, erosion, settlement, coastal dynamics);
- Provide preliminary recommendations for foundation types and structural considerations;
- Scope of Work
The scope of work will include, but not be limited to:
- Site reconnaissance and visual inspection of terrain and coastal characteristics;
- Review of existing geological, hydrological, and environmental data (if available);
- Preliminary field investigations (e.g. trial pits, hand augers, or indicative borehole recommendations);
- Identification of soil profiles and groundwater conditions;
- Mapping of high-risk zones (e.g. flood-prone areas, erosion zones, weak soils);
- Engagement with relevant local authorities and technical agencies where necessary;
- Preparation of a Geotechnical Scoping Report outlining findings and recommendations.
The assignment will be conducted within the project area located in Kigamboni Municipal Council, Dar es Salaam.
- Qualification Requirements
Eligible firms/consultants are invited to demonstrate their capacity to undertake this assignment. Submissions must include:
- Company/consultant profile with relevant geotechnical expertise;
- Detailed CV(s) of key personnel (Geotechnical Engineer(s), Engineering Geologist, etc.);
- Proof of registration with relevant professional bodies (e.g. Engineers Registration Board (ERB) or equivalent);
- Demonstrated experience in geotechnical surveys for coastal or infrastructure projects;
- List of similar assignments including:
- Project name
- Client/donor
- Scope and value of assignment
- Contact references
- Duration of Assignment
The assignment is expected to be completed within 2–3 weeks from contract signing.
- Deliverables
The consultant is expected to deliver:
- Inception Brief outlining methodology and work plan;
- Geotechnical Scoping Report, including:
- Site description and conditions
- Preliminary soil and groundwater assessment
- Identification of risks and constraints
- Indicative foundation and engineering considerations
- Recommendations for detailed geotechnical investigation
- Presentation of findings to the client and key stakeholders.
